It’s a beautiful Wednesday, so we are taking out time to appreciate some of our favorite women. We admire these women for various reasons which includes style, fashion, career, beauty. They inspire fashion with their unique styles and their personal brands.

For the First Wednesday of 2017, we are celebrating the Queen beauty herself, Agbani Darego. As you already know Nigeria has never been in short supply of talented beauty queens as Agbani is a sure example. The emergence of Agbani as the winner of the Miss 2001 World Beauty Pageant marked a new dawn not only for Nigeria but also for this calm, reserved and discerning beauty.

This 34-year old beauty queen was born on the 22nd of December, ventured into modeling and beauty pageantry with the ”Face of Africa” modeling contest where she came out as a first runner up. She ventured into the big stage in 2001 where she contested at the ”Most Beautiful Girl in Nigeria” contest where she won the contest which made her eligible for the Miss World contest. Taking up the banner of her country Nigeria, Agbani contested later that year for the Miss World beauty contest in Puerto Rico where she was crowned the Miss World. Agbani at the age of 18, made history as the first ever native African to win Miss World and also the first Nigerian to be included in the top 10 semifinalists in the Miss Universe contest where she came seventh overall.

Agbani Darego is one of the Africa’s most influential women of all. Years after her big win, this beauty queen who owns the denim range”AD by Agbani Darego” which includes jeans, sunglasses, dresses and bags, continues to stay relevant in the fashion, modelling and entertainment world. She has been great icon to upcoming models both in and around the continent.
